Decimals

Decimals are classified into two types

1) Terminating

2) Non-terminating

                                                      Terminating-Decimals

2/5  = 0.4                          3/75= 1/25 ( here 1/25 is the simple form of the fraction 3/75)
3/25 =0.12
1/2= 0.5
1/4= 0.25
How to identify terminating decimals:

step 1 : take the denominator ( after simplifying the fraction into the simple form)
step 2 : factorize  the denominator
step 3:  after factorization if you find only powers of 2 or powers of 5 or powers of 2&5 then the given                                                                        fraction is a terminating one. otherwise non-terminating.

eg. for non terminating:
1/3=0.3333333333333333333333.........
2/9=0.222222222222222222222........

To convert or express percentages as decimals, divide by 100 or simply just move the decimal point by two places to the left of the given number, thus:
1% = 1/100 = 0.01
2% = 2/100 = 0.02 = 1/50
3% = 3/100 = 0.03
4% = 4/100 = 0.04 = 1/25
5% = 5/100 = 0.05 = 1/20
6.25% = 6.25/100 = 0.0625 = 1/16
7% = 7/100 = 0.07
7.5% = 7.5/100 = 0.075
10% = 10/100 = 0.1 = 1/10
12.5% = 12.5/100 = 0.125 = 1/8
20% = 0.2 = 1/5
21% = 0.21
25% = 0.25 = 1/4
30% = 0.3 = 3/10
33.33% = 33.33/100 = 0.3333 = 1/3
37.5% = 0.375 = 3/8
40% = 0.4 = 2/5
50% = 0.5 = 1/2
60% = 0.6 = 3/5
62.5% = 0.625 = 5/8
66.66% = 66.66/100 = 2/3
75% = 0.75 = 3/4
80% = 0.8 = 4/5
87.5% = 0.875 = 7/8
100% = 1
125% = 1.25 = 1 1/4
150% = 1.5 = 1 1/2
200% = 2
